This course provides a foundational understanding of business modeling specifically tailored for Kenyan entrepreneurs.
Through case studies, multimedia resources, and practical exercises, learners will use the Business Model Canvas to craft a model that addresses local market dynamics.
Each week introduces new elements, culminating in a comprehensive, gamified exercise where learners build their own business model.
Curriculum
In this module, you will learn about business models, their significance for startups and existing businesses, and the structure of the Business Model Canvas. The module covers the nine building blocks of the Canvas and their application to real-world scenarios. Learners will analyze Kenyan business models like M-Pesa and Safaricom, and engage in practical exercises to draft a Business Model Canvas for a local concept.
In this module, you will learn how to identify and segment customers based on needs, behaviors, and demographics. You will also craft compelling value propositions tailored to these customer segments, using Kenyan examples such as Twiga Foods and M-Kopa. Through gamified activities, case studies, and practical exercises, learners will develop skills to align their business offerings with customer needs.
In this module, you will learn strategies for reaching customers, building strong relationships, and creating sustainable revenue streams. The module explores channel types, customer relationship-building strategies, and revenue models, with examples from KOKO Networks, Safaricom, and Kenyan microfinance firms. Practical exercises include designing a revenue model for a business idea and analyzing real-world case studies.
In this module, you will integrate all components of the Business Model Canvas into a cohesive and practical framework. Learners will review and finalize each element of their Canvas and participate in a gamified exercise to refine their models. The module includes peer reviews, interactive tools, and a final project presentation of the completed Business Model Canvas. Resources include gamified tools and videos, along with a final quiz and project submission for comprehensive assessment.
Upon successful completion of this course, learners will receive a Certificate of Completion. This certificate signifies that you have gained foundational knowledge in business modeling, mastered the use of the Business Model Canvas, and developed practical skills to create and refine business models tailored to the Kenyan market.
