The purpose of this course is to capacitate the learner to develop the ability to protect organisations networks security at all levels by applying various tools and techniques. This course covers Fundamentals of Network Security: Security Standards; Security Policy; Information security; The CIA triad - confidentiality, Integrity and authentication, security threats and threat analysis). Network Security Threats: Intrusion Detection System (IDS) and Intrusion Prevention Systems (IPS); Firewalls; Bastion Host and Honeypots; Hardening Operating Systems; Hardening Modems, Hardening Networks; Patch Management; Log Analysis. Network Vulnerability Assessment: Access control systems, Mechanisms and technologies, Principle of least privilege. Message security: confidentiality, authentication and integrity. Additionally, the course addresses the Operating systems security: Operating system vulnerabilities; intrusion detection; authentication systems; Kerberos, ensuring students are well-equipped to apply security practices responsibly and effectively. By the end of the course, students will have the expertise needed to develop, implement, and manage robust security solutions in a variety of professional contexts.
