Building Generative AI Applications is jointly offered by The Open University of Kenya (OUK) and BCS Technology International Pty Limited, Australia. The course equips learners with cutting-edge Generative AI skills for creating text, images, music, and videos. Delivered by AI PhDs and industry experts, it blends theory with practice, featuring weekly tutorials, hands-on projects, and a final hackathon.

Through the BCS Jaseci Lab ecosystem, learners gain practical experience in integrating and deploying AI applications. With AI transforming healthcare, agriculture, finance, education, and transportation, this program prepares you for high-impact roles in the AI-driven economy.

Curriculum

Week 1: Course Launch & the Generative AI Wave

Welcome, course structure, hackathon announcement, state of GenAI from a research lens, and industry trends shaping the future.

Week 2: Foundations of AI, ML & Deep Learning

Core definitions of AI vs ML vs DL, supervised/unsupervised/reinforcement learning, neural networks, and cognition comparisons.

Week 3: Sequence Models & Transformer Evolution

RNNs, LSTMs, GRUs, attention mechanisms, encoder-decoder models, and introduction to the Transformer architecture.

Week 4: GPT Architecture (GPT-1 to GPT-5)

Evolution of GPT models, pre-training & fine-tuning strategies, and RLHF (Reinforcement Learning with Human Feedback).

Week 5–8: Advanced Models, Agentic AI & Multimodal Systems

DeepSeek-V2, Claude, LLaMA, Mistral, Phi 4, multimodal AI (GPT-4V, Gemma 3, MM-ReAct), agentic AI systems, and fine-tuning strategies with LoRA and domain adaptation.

Hackathon (Week 9–10)
