This foundational module introduces you to the fundamentals of intellectual property (IP). It informs what IP is, its forms, and importance to owners. You will learn the concept of ‘rights’ as applied in intellectual property.
In this module, we step into IP protection. The value of an IP to its owner highly depends on the scope and strength of the protection accorded to that IP.
This module explores the various IP commercialization routes available, when they are best applicable, and the merits and demerits of each route. It also reviews the common pitfalls that researchers and research institutions face in the commercialization journey and suggests ways to navigate around them.
We explore how we can go about successfully managing IP assets resulting from collaborative research engagements. How can research partners and their funders mutually and equitably share the IP resulting from joint research while at the same time meeting all set legal and ethical standard.
This module focuses on branding and creating a strong presence in the market. Your IP can only command a market share if you present it to the market in a distinguishing way. The brand must be clearly and consistently communicated to potential clients for impact.
